Part of my job as Marketing Ninja for MailChimp’s Marketing Lab involves working on conference/event sponsorships and then attending those conferences/events to hang out and give away free things. Its a tough job but somebody’s got to do it. Usually when we sponsor a conference we like to focus on the party part of the conference. Why? Because people like parties (especially free alcohol) and we like to be associated with things people like (such as free alcohol). I’m pretty sure that was in one of my marketing school classes…
Anyway, last weekend the LessEverything guys brought their world-famous LessConf to Atlanta. We were very excited to be a part of it. Several Chimpsters were in attendance, including myself, and there were some great speakers.
We sponsored the after-party at Whiskey Park on Friday evening and since our second shipment of Monkey Hats had finally arrived, I was looking forward to giving some away and seeing what people thought of them.
Well, people liked them.
So, that was exciting.
And then there was this awesomeness:

Apparently I’m not the only one who loves these hats. I feel so validated.
Almost immediately after LessConf, myself and our Customer Relations Rock Star, Lance, headed to the Big Apple (wait…is that like saying HOTlanta?) for TechCrunch Disrupt.
As sponsors we’d been able to give away 2 tickets to the conference in return for a good Arrington impression. Here were the 2 winning submissions:
Jonathon Knepper:

and Robin Smail:

Now I realize Robin’s picture was one that Arrington himself had posted earlier, but her actual job title is Disruptive Technologist, so I really couldn’t say no. Plus, as it turns out, she’s awesome.

Jonathon is obviously awesome based on his Arrington impression alone.
As I mentioned before, we like to sponsor things that involve free alcohol, so naturally we put dibs on sponsoring the TechCrunch Disrupt after-party. I’d like to take credit for picking the amazingly beautiful venue at Tribeca Rooftop but that was the work of TC’s event and sponsorship team. I just showed up with Monkey Hats and T-Shirts.
Nevertheless, it was a good time.
If all that wasn’t enough, we had the good fortune of being in NY during the 5 year blogiversary of our friend Tina’s design blog, SwissMiss. But, details on that party will have to wait for another post.
